Qualified and registered marine personnel shall operate marine transport and materials handling equipment, involving the use of rigging equipment, boats and barges.

Personnel shall ensure proper load distribution, load rating, slings/chains/hooks/lifting tackles/ropes are properly attached to load, and proper selection and application of rigging items.

The company shall ensure that marine transport activities and safety adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Trained and competent person shall operate company boat and barge.
  • Passengers shall inform the Quartermaster or supervisor if it is their first time being transported by boat so that briefing may be conducted.
  • Passengers shall remain seated inside the boat during transit. (This does not apply during movement and deployment of emergency response equipment).
  • Boat shall be equipped with Personal Flotation Devices (life saving devices) for each personnel on-board, which shall be securely and properly fastened.
  • If a person falls into the water, immediately inform the boat Quartermaster by shouting “man-overboard”. Assist in the rescue as directed by the diver attached to boat or Quartermaster.
